Rare Blue Beryl Discovery in Canada
By Cara Woudenberg · Online Editor

VANCOUVER — True North Gems has confirmed the discovery of blue gemstones believed to be a rare deposit of blue beryl, a discovery that was originally announced in the National Science and Engineering Research Council's (NSERC) News Bureau Bulletin in late August.

In the Bulletin, NSERC says that True North Gems' C$470,000 regional exploration program has resulted in the discovery of "a transparent gemstone the colour of blue velvet. And perhaps so rare that it may have only been found once before, in Brazil."

The blue gemstones discovered on the Company's 100-percent-owned True Blue property are currently being classified by gem experts to determine if they are a completely new classification of gemstone or
the world's second occurrence of deep blue beryl. The company is encouraged by the initial field reports. "Indications based on the blue beryl gemstone's hue, tone, and saturation are that True North Gems has discovered what appears to be a new variety of beryl," says William Rohert, a consulting gemologist for True North Gems.

More than 50 samples of beryl crystals have been found on the True Blue property located 119 kilometres Northwest of the Company's 100-percent-owned Regal Ridge emerald property. "The True Blue property has the potential to become a very important coloured gemstone deposit," says Rohert.

Further scientific investigation of the crystal chemistry necessary to classify the rare blue beryl will be conducted by Dr. Lee Groat, professor, University of British Columbia and by George Rossman of the California Institute of Technology. The results from the independent analysis are expected by late September. Authentication of the results will be conducted by the Gemological Institute of America.

True North Gems is a public company, listed on the TSX-Venture Exchange and is engaged in the exploration and development of North American gemstone deposits. The company is a pioneer in Canadian emerald exploration and owns a 100-percent interest in the Yukon-based Regal Ridge property and in the Ontario-based Ghost Lake property. Regal Ridge and Ghost Lake host the only two confirmed emerald deposits in Canada.
