In Part 2 of our series, we show gem magnificence for those spending between $400 and $900.

For those consumers willing to stretch their budgets into the middle and upper three figures but who want to stay far shy of the $1,000 mark, there are a multitude of superb colored stones available. First, thrift-minded shoppers can consider larger non-traditional colored stones such as garnet, tourmaline and zircon. Bargain-focused traditionalists will find decent-quality venerables such as blue and fancy-color sapphire and spinel as well as more recently established favorites such as tsavorite and tanzanite.

We asked Color First, Orlando, Florida; Stuller Inc., Lafayette, Louisiana; and lapidary John Dyer, Edina, Minnesota, to assemble a cornucopia of fine colored stones costing between $400 and $900 per stone at retail. Go feast your eyes.
