AGL Launches Fast Track Certs New York-based American Gemological Laboratories (AGL) has introduced a new gemstone certification service: Fast Track ™. The program was designed to give retailers and dealers an affordable way to certify gemstones. All levels of the three-tier system provides basic identification of the gemstone and treatment disclosure that is compliant with Federal Trade Commission (FTC) regulations. Fast Track I, which starts at $25 per stone, includes an identification of the gemstone, dimensions, carat weight, shape, cut, and treatment disclosure. It can be used only for rubies, emeralds, and sapphires up to 1.5 carats and other gemstones up to 3 carats. Fast Track II, for $75, includes the information on a Fast Track I report plus color and clarity grading and more details on the type of treatment (if any). This type of report is for rubies, emeralds, and sapphires up to 2.5 carats, and other gemstones up to 5 carats. Fast Track Premium, for $150, covers all the information on the other reports plus gemstone origin. The Premium service can be used for rubies, emeralds, and sapphires up to 3.5 carats, and others up to 10 carats. AGL will also issue colored gemstone reports at the Prestige ™ level, which will include much more detailed information about the gemstone, its origin, and the type of treatments it’s undergone (if any). AGL was acquired last year by Collectors Universe, a publicly-traded company whose focus is certifying valuable collectibles. The Fast Track program was developed to help bring colored gemstone certification to mainstream consumers. Posted: January 24, 2007 |
